What Choices Do We Make Between Lives?

Between lives a person rests, reviews the life just completed, and decides how the next physical existence will be used. The interval is not automatic. It is a deliberate period of self-examination in which the full history of other lives becomes available, emotional ties with people from earlier existences are felt, and the specific way reincarnation will serve development is chosen.

Clients often come to past life regression when they want to understand the decisions that shaped the life they are currently living. In one-to-one sessions I work with people who want to see the choices made in that interval and how those choices are still active now.

What is reviewed before the next life is chosen?

The self first examines the life that has just ended. Events can be re-experienced, altered in understanding, or studied for the insights they contain. At the same time the larger identity becomes visible, including other lives that have been lived and the people with whom strong connections remain.

Guides who are further along in their own development offer orientation, but the decisions stay with the individual. The review shows which abilities have been strengthened, which understandings are still incomplete, and which relationships still carry unfinished material. Only after this seeing does the planning of the next life begin.

How is the next life actually planned?

The planning covers more than the choice of parents. The self decides whether to focus intensively on one characteristic (intellect, emotion, a particular creative ability) or to keep several strands of development moving together. It settles the relationships that will be part of the life, often through direct communication with the other people involved. Some choose to return with groups they have known before. Others prefer more isolated positions. The historical period, the body, and the central challenges are selected so that the intended growth can occur. The plan sets the conditions and the main opportunities. Once the life begins, free will continues, so the person can meet those opportunities in more than one way.

Why do some people return with groups while others return alone?

Both choices serve different needs. Returning with a familiar group provides continuity and a shared framework in which long-standing issues can be worked with again. Returning in a more independent position offers greater freedom to explore without the structure of prior associates. In the between-lives state these preferences are clear. A person who has thrived inside group cycles may choose them again. A person who wants a different pace may step outside them. Neither choice is superior. Each is matched to the way the individual prefers to develop at that time.

Can the choices made between lives be seen in this life?

Portions of the planning often surface in dreams, in the sense that certain relationships were arranged, or in the recognition that a present challenge matches an ability the self intended to develop. Regression can bring more of the interval into awareness. Clients frequently recover the reasons they selected their present family, the characteristic they chose to emphasize, and the people they agreed to meet again. Seeing those choices does not remove the difficulties of the current life. It shows that the difficulties were selected after a period of clear consideration, which changes how they can be met.

How past life regression applies here

In a past life regression session the focus can include the between-lives interval and the specific decisions that led to the present existence. Clients often recover the review that took place, the abilities they intended to strengthen, the relationships they agreed to continue, and the reason they chose the particular conditions of this life. The session makes those earlier choices visible so the person can work with the life they deliberately entered.

Frequently asked questions

Do we really choose the details of the next life?

Yes. The between-lives period includes a deliberate planning process in which parents, challenges, relationships, and areas of focus are selected.

Are there guides during this time?

Yes. Teachers and other portions of the larger identity offer orientation and information. The final decisions remain with the individual.

What if someone returns before the planning is complete?

The return can still occur. Lessons are gained, though the preparation is less thorough. The self continues to learn from whatever conditions were entered.

Can I remember choosing this life?

Regression often brings forward the sense of having reviewed options and agreed to the present circumstances. The memory usually arrives as a clear knowing rather than as a detailed visual record.
