When Does the Soul Choose and Enter a New Life?
The self chooses the parents, the body, and the conditions of a new life in the between-lives interval, then enters the forming body gradually. Entry is not a single moment at conception or at birth. It is a progressive shift of focus that can begin before conception, intensify during pregnancy, and complete around the time of birth. People sometimes explore this through past life regression when they want to understand the bond with their parents or the sense that they arrived with a specific purpose. In one-to-one sessions I work with clients who want to see how they selected and entered the life they are living now.
When and how is the new life chosen?
The choice is made after the review of the previous life. The self selects the parents who can supply the needed conditions, the historical moment, the physical constitution, and the central relationships and challenges. Communication with the future parents and with others who will share the life often occurs in this interval. The self may visit the environment of the parents-to-be before conception takes place. These visits are natural. They allow the self to experience the essence of the coming relationships and to confirm the challenge it has set. The decision is deliberate. Once made, the self is drawn to the time and place of the conception that matches the choice.
How does entry into the new body occur?
Entry is gradual and individual. Some personalities, especially those with strong prior connections to the parents, begin to focus in the fetus at conception. Even then, large portions of awareness remain in the between-lives state. The womb experience is initially dreamlike. Over time the balance shifts until concentration in the between-lives interval becomes more difficult and focus in the forming body becomes primary. Other personalities delay full entry, remaining more distant from the body until later in the pregnancy or until birth itself. The timing depends on the emotional characteristics carried from previous lives and on the strength of the desire to rejoin the chosen parents. There is no single required moment.
What is the effect of birth on this process?
The shock of birth usually draws the remaining focus fully into physical reality. Before birth the person may still move between the between-lives state and the body. The intensity of birth tends to complete the shift. In the early period of infancy the focus is still not perfectly steady. The self continues to acclimate. Parents sometimes notice fluctuations in the infant’s presence that reflect this ongoing adjustment. The entry that began as a choice in the between-lives interval is finished by the demands of the new physical life.
Can the process of choosing and entering be known later?
Portions of the process often remain accessible. Dreams in childhood or adulthood may replay the sense of having visited the parents before birth or of having hovered near the forming body. Regression can bring the choice and the entry into clearer view. Clients frequently recover the reasons they selected their particular parents, the quality of the pre-birth connection, and the moment when focus settled fully into the body. Seeing the process does not alter the fact of the birth. It shows that the arrival was chosen and gradual rather than abrupt or accidental.
How past life regression applies here
In a past life regression session the focus can include the selection of the present life and the manner of entry into it. Clients often recover the between-lives decision, any pre-birth visits to the parents, the gradual shift of focus into the fetus, and the completing effect of birth. The session makes the chosen arrival visible so the present relationships and circumstances can be met as the life that was deliberately entered.
