How Do Male and Female Lives Work Together?
Every person lives both male and female lives. The experiences of one sex are carried into the lives of the other so that the full range of human qualities can be developed. Within the present person there remains an inner knowledge of the opposite-sex lives already lived. This inner knowledge prevents over-identification with the current sex and supplies abilities that would otherwise be unavailable.
People often explore this through past life regression when they want to understand the balance of masculine and feminine qualities in themselves or the intensity of certain relationships. In one-to-one sessions I work with clients who want to see how their male and female lives inform each other and how that balance is active now.
Why are both male and female lives necessary?
Abilities cannot be fully developed along a single-sex line. To know dependence and the reception of care, and also to know responsibility and the giving of care, both positions must be experienced. Some personalities alternate sex with each life. Others live a series of lives as one sex and then a series as the other. The entire cycle includes both. The choice of sequence is individual. What remains constant is the need for the self to stand in both positions so that the qualities associated with each can be known from the inside and then integrated.
How does the inner opposite-sex knowledge function?
Inside every male there is a living memory of the female lives already lived. Inside every female there is a living memory of the male lives already lived. This memory is not a distant archive. It operates as an active influence that softens rigid identification with the present sex and brings forward intuitions, strengths, and ways of relating that belong to the other position. A man who dreams of himself as a woman, or a woman who dreams of herself as a man, is often contacting this inner reservoir. The dreams can reveal the tone and the lessons of those earlier opposite-sex lives. The inner knowledge also appears in daily life as an unexplained ease or difficulty in certain roles, or as a compensating impulse when the present sex role has become too narrow.
How do opposite-sex lives affect present relationships?
The inner memory of the other sex shapes how a person relates to partners, children, and friends. A man draws on his female lives when he seeks to understand a woman’s experience. A woman draws on her male lives when she meets aggression or authority. In regression, clients frequently discover that a present partner or parent was known in an opposite-sex configuration, and that the emotional charge of the current relationship carries the residue of that earlier pairing. Seeing the prior opposite-sex life often clarifies why a particular dynamic feels both familiar and difficult. The recognition does not erase the present roles. It shows the larger continuity in which those roles are being lived.
What becomes possible when both sets of lives are acknowledged?
When a person recognizes that male and female experience already belong to the same self, the pressure to perform a narrow version of the current sex usually decreases. Qualities that once felt foreign or forbidden can be used without the sense that they contradict identity. Clients often report greater ease in relationships and a clearer sense of their own range once the opposite-sex lives have been seen. The present life remains focused in one sex. The inner knowledge of the other sex becomes a resource rather than a contradiction.
How past life regression applies here
In a past life regression session the focus can include the opposite-sex lives that are still active in the present person. Clients frequently recover specific female lives if they are now male, or male lives if they are now female, and see how those experiences inform current strengths, relationships, and inner conflicts. The session makes the inner opposite-sex knowledge conscious so it can be used rather than resisted.

Yes. Regression frequently shows that a present relationship continues from an earlier life in which the sexes were reversed, and that the current dynamic carries material from that reversal.
It usually reduces rigid identification with the current sex and makes the qualities of the other sex available as resources rather than as threats to identity.
