Fear of Being Seen: A Past Life Story About Visibility

Quick answer: A fear of being seen keeps many talented people behind the scenes, even when they know their purpose. In a regression Mira Kelley described, a writer who had always written for others saw a lifetime where being recognized felt dangerous. Releasing that old fear brought a sense of ease and the knowing that this lifetime is different.

Some people struggle to name their purpose. Others know exactly what they’re here to do, and still can’t bring themselves to do it publicly. When Johanna Carroll asked me about blocks to purpose on Dialogue with Divinity, I shared a session from that very day. You can hear it in my interview with Johanna Carroll.

Why do people who know their purpose still hold back?

As I told Johanna, “sometimes people do know what their purpose is, but there are fears.”

Knowing your gift and sharing it under your own name are two different steps. The first takes clarity. The second takes courage, because it means being visible, being judged and being remembered.

What did the writer discover in regression?

The client who came to me that day was a writer. In the session, the client described the struggle like this: “I have so much to offer, and I am a writer, that’s what I do, and I have been procrastinating on writing my own book.”

Then came the heart of it: “it’s very easy to be the writer who stands behind somebody’s name, like a ghostwriter, and so much harder to have my name on the cover of a book.”

In regression, this writer saw a lifetime marked by fear of people, of what they could do, and of “the danger of actually being seen and being recognized.”

What changed after the session?

Seeing that lifetime made the fear make sense. It belonged to another time and place. As I described it, the knowing that came was: “this is a different lifetime, of course I’m safe, of course I can create what I’m looking to create, and the divine will support me in that.”

That’s the second way I use regression for purpose. The first explores your gifts. The second, in my words, is “to remove whatever blocks stand in the way for each and every one of them.” You can read more about the first in How Past Lives Relate to Your Life Purpose and Talents From Past Lives.

Is your fear of being seen from another lifetime?

It might be, especially if the fear feels bigger than anything in your current life explains. Some signs worth noticing:

  • You freeze at the idea of putting your name or face on your work.
  • You’re comfortable helping others shine and uneasy when attention turns to you.
  • You procrastinate most on the projects that would make you visible.
  • You feel a sense of danger, more than shyness, about being recognized.

Whatever its origin, this fear is carrying a message. Fear Is a Messenger explains how to listen to it.

How can you start being seen?

  1. Name what you’re hiding. Which project, idea or gift have you kept behind someone else’s name?
  2. Notice the feeling in your body. Ask, “Does this belong to now, or to another time?”
  3. Remind yourself where you are. Say, “This is a different lifetime. I am safe.”
  4. Take a visible step. Share one piece of work under your own name, even with one trusted person.
  5. Lean on the divine. Trust that you’ll be supported as you create.
  6. Explore the root. A past life regression can show you where the fear began.

Many people discover that the gifts they’re afraid to share are the ones the world most needs from them. You can explore more on my past lives page.

Try this today

Write the title of the project you’ve been hiding on a page, with your full name underneath it as the author or creator. Look at it for a full minute and notice what you feel. Write that feeling down, then write next to it: “This is a different lifetime. I am safe to be seen.” Share one sentence about the project with someone you trust this week.
