Have You Loved Them Before? Love Mira letter header by Mira Kelley on past life soulmates and soul ties

Have You Loved Them Before?

Why some people feel like “there you are” the moment you meet, the four soul ties that pull two people back together, and how to love from freedom.

You had only just met.

And yet you knew their laugh before you heard it. You knew how it would feel when they took your hand. Or you knew, somewhere in your stomach, that one day they would leave.

Has someone ever walked into your life, and within seconds something in you said: there you are?

If you have ever felt that kind of recognition with a partner, a friend, a parent, a child, or someone you can’t seem to let go of, this letter is for you. I have spent many years guiding people into their past lives, and when we follow that feeling back, very often we find that person waiting there. Another time. Another body. Another name. The same eyes.

You are more than this one life

Here is how I see it.

Your soul has lived many lives, and from the soul’s point of view, all of them are happening now, side by side, like rooms in the same house.

So when you meet someone who feels ancient to you, it is often because some part of you is already in a room with them, somewhere else in that house. Your body recognizes them before your mind has a single reason.

That is why love is one of the places where the past shows up most clearly. Dr. Wayne Dyer trusted me with a past life regression and wrote about that session in Wishes Fulfilled. Since then I have guided thousands of people back through time, and the people they love keep appearing.

The four soul ties

In my work I see four kinds of ties that pull two souls back together.

1. Love left unfinished. You were torn apart by war, by distance, by death, by a family that said no. The love never got to complete itself, so it keeps looking for a way home.

2. Guilt, the feeling of owing. Something happened that you blamed yourself for. You left. You couldn’t save them. You chose yourself, once, and they paid the price. And now you find yourself over-giving to this person, staying too long, trying to make up for something you can’t even name.

3. A promise. “I will find you again.” “I’ll wait for you.” Promises made in love or in grief can travel a very long way. And a promise that was beautiful in one life can become a cage in the next, because you are still waiting, and they may have moved on.

4. A lesson. Some souls meet again because together they are learning something neither could learn alone. How to speak up. How to leave. How to receive. How to trust.

Take a breath and think of the person who came to mind as you read. Which tie feels familiar? Notice your chest, your throat, your stomach. Whatever you feel is information.

When the pull feels like destiny

A strong pull can feel like destiny. And sometimes it is.

Yet sometimes the pull is strong precisely because something is unfinished, and unfinished things ache.

There is a childhood layer too. Many of us learned early that love comes with anxiety, with waiting, with trying to earn it. So when someone gives us that familiar feeling, the body says “home,” even when “home” was painful.

I know that kept you close to the people you needed when you were small. You are an adult now. You get to look at the whole story and choose.

When you can see the soul story clearly, you can see what is yours to keep and what you are free to put down. And then you can love from freedom.

What a regression can show you

In a past life regression, you stay aware the whole time. You relax deeply, and your inner self, the wiser part of you, brings you what you are ready to see.

When you follow a relationship back, you can discover:

  • Who they were to you in that life. A partner, a sibling, a parent, a rival, a child.
  • The moment that shaped you both. What happened, what was said, and what was left unsaid.
  • The decision you made about love in that moment. “Love means losing.” “I have to save them.” “I’ll wait forever.”
  • Why you chose to meet again, and what you came to give each other this time.

And then comes the part I love most. Soul to soul, you can give back what was never yours to carry: their pain, their choices, the guilt, the waiting. And you can take back what is yours: your trust, your voice, your joy.

If a promise passed between you, you can say: “I release us both from anything that was made in fear. Whatever was made in love, love can keep.”

And if the person you think of is someone who hurt you, hear this clearly. You owe them nothing. Reconnecting is never required. Taking back what is yours is the whole of it.

Your small step today

Think of the one who feels like “there you are.”

On a scale from 0 to 10, how strong is the pull, the ache or the confusion you feel around them? Write the number down. Then put your hand on your heart and say: “Whatever was made in love, love can keep. Everything else I set free.”

Notice whether the number moves. Then, when you are ready, press play on the regression and let me guide you to meet them.

Questions and Answers

Why do I feel like I have known someone before?

When someone feels instantly familiar, it is often because your soul has loved them in another life. You can read more about why you feel you have known someone before. From the soul's point of view all of your lives are happening now, so your body can recognize a person before your mind has a single reason.

What are the four soul ties that bring two people back together?

Mira Kelley sees four: love left unfinished, guilt or the feeling of owing, a promise such as "I will find you again," and a lesson the two souls are learning together. Learn more about soulmates and past lives.

Is a strong pull toward someone always destiny?

Sometimes it is. A pull can also feel strong because something between you is unfinished, or because you learned in childhood that love comes with anxiety and waiting. Seeing the whole soul story helps you choose what to keep and what to set free.

What can a past life regression show me about a relationship?

You can discover who the person was to you in that life, the moment that shaped you both, the decision you made about love, and why you chose to meet again. Then you can give back what was never yours to carry and take back your trust, your voice and your joy.

Do I have to reconnect with someone who hurt me in a past life?

No. You owe them nothing, and reconnecting is never required. Taking back what is yours is the whole of it. If a relationship holds trauma or abuse, explore it with a trained practitioner beside you.
